If you knew the man I am

the faithfulness upon which you can depend

you find me loyal to your undying heart,

if you knew my capacity

to give you unconditionally

love, and to receive the same from you

you'd see and you would rest assured

that all is safe with me,

if you knew my honesty

and my willingness to gladly share

the good, the bad, the ugly, yours and mine

the deepest secrets of our hearts and minds

our fears, our dreams, and more, you'd find

that we stand upon the verge of happiness,

if you knew my level of trust

that I'd never break faith or turn in

to yours or anyone else for whom you care,

if you knew my empathy

you'd know that naught but love fill me

and my soul, then indeed you know

you are cherished beyond belief,

if you knew my heart within

you'd know I'd never hurt you then,

with words or deeds or any action

that would betray your beautiful soul,

if you knew my ethical code

the maturity to which I now hold

to never repeat mistakes at any cost,

if you knew my sanity

and my rock-solid ability

to stand by you, true unto the end,

if you knew my maturity

that lends my life stability

you'd know that I am strong enough

to support us both in anything we must face,

if you knew my gentleness

that feeds my heart it's tenderness

to forgive all whom have ever done me wrong

you'd see that I am just a man

who accepts himself as so few can

and even more: like accepting others too,

if you knew the man I am

you'd run to take me by the hand

embrace me tight and never let me go

you'd see that I am so much more

than the soulmate you've been looking for

but a loyal, devoted, trusted, faithful friend,

and if you knew yourself you'd see

that I am everything you need

and so much more if only

you would take that risk

and open up your hand.
