I held a butterfly today                            .                  .                       in gently outstretched palm

It landed on my finger                        .          .                  though alighted in my heart

Its gaze was melancholy                 .    .                 and its heart was laden full

Its body trembled gently         ..         but its soul heaven bourne

Never had I

beheld before

a creature

like this

gently then

I gazed in awe

to marvel at the bliss

It stayed for but a moment                 then took unto the sky

But in my heart its beauty                                           fair still resonates within

Fly my little butterfly                                                              flap your powdery wings

Grateful for a chance am I                                                              to have held you close to me.
